The Swedish Diet is a diet known as the 13-day metabolic diet. This diet promises to help you lose 15 pounds in two weeks, but also to completely change your metabolism, so you won’t gain weight back for two years.

The Swedish diet has become one of the most popular in the world. Especially after the American Heart Foundation recommended the Swedish Diet to patients with heart disease who need to lose weight quickly. But the same foundation also says that people after 35 who have health problems should not use this diet.

Rules to follow:

If you decide to follow this meal plan, you will have to follow some strict rules.

You can’t drink tea or coffee, except for those on the menu.
You have to drink 2 liters of water a day.
Do not use salt and sugar, except for those on the menu.
Do not continue this diet for more than 13 days.
Do not repeat this diet after less than 3 months.

Advice:

You can swap out lunch and dinner.
If you can’t find broccoli, you can replace it with cauliflower.
Eat only egg whites if you have high cholesterol.
Dress your green salad with lemon and olive oil.
If the diet is difficult to tolerate, you can stop on day 6 and repeat for 6 more days after 3 months.

Foods Allowed:

Meat, chicken, turkey, fish and seafood
Eggs
Vegetables: cabbage, cauliflower, mushrooms, cucumbers, onions, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, pumpkin, eggplant, olives, spinach, lettuce, avocado
Natural dairy products; yogurt, butter, sour cream, cream cheese, whole cheeses, etc.
Dried nuts; walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, cashews (within reasonable limits), etc.
Drinks; water (2 liters minimum), coffee and tea (no sweeteners or sugar!)
Vegetable oils
Certain grains such as oats and rye
Do not eat more than twice a week as it may slow down your metabolism: beets, carrots, celery, fruit because of its sugar content, red or white wine.

Foods Forbidden:

Soft drinks, sugary juices and beer.
Skimmed and normal milk as it may contain high levels of lactose sugar.
Refined oils and margarine.
Desserts: cakes, candy, pastries, chocolates, ice cream, granola bars, artificial sweeteners and sweet dairy products
Muesli, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, French fries, chips, porridge, pulses and lentils because they are high in carbohydrates.

Day 1

Breakfast: coffee (no sugar and no milk)
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs + boiled spinach
Dinner: grilled steak (200 g) + green salad

Day 2

Breakfast: coffee + whole wheat bread with butter
Lunch: 200 grams of ham
Dinner: 200 g of low fat grilled steak, green salad (with lettuce and cucumber) and 1 fruit

Day 3

Breakfast: black coffee + 1 slice of whole wheat bread with butter
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs + tomato salad + green beans
Dinner: 1 slice of ham and green salad (cucumber and lettuce only)

Day 4

Breakfast: black coffee + 1 slice of toasted bread
Lunch: boiled or raw carrots and cheese.
Dinner: fruit salad and plain (natural) yogurt

Day 5

Breakfast: black coffee + carrots with lemon (cooked or raw)
Lunch: fried white fish with fresh tomatoes
Dinner: grilled steak (200g) + green salad

Day 6

Breakfast: coffee and 1 slice of whole wheat bread with butter
Lunch: Grilled meat (150 grams) + fruit
Dinner: 200g skinless chicken + salad

Day 7

Breakfast: tea with sugar-free lemon.
Lunch: 200g of grilled meat and 1 fruit
Dinner: Whatever you want from dinner, except for day 3

Day 8

Breakfast: coffee + 1 slice of cheese and a tomato
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs + boiled spinach
Dinner: grilled steak (200 grams) + green salad

Day 9

Breakfast: black coffee + 1 slice of whole wheat bread with butter
Lunch: grilled meat (150g) and green salad
Dinner: 2 boiled eggs with carrots or tomatoes.

Day 10

Breakfast: black coffee + 1 slice of black bread with butter
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs + tomato salad and green beans
Dinner: ham (100 grams) and green salad (cucumbers and lettuce only)

Day 11

Breakfast: coffee (no sugar and no milk)
Lunch: boiled or raw carrots and cheese.
Dinner: fruit salad and plain yogurt

Day 12

Breakfast: black coffee and 1 slice of black bread with butter.
Lunch: Skinless grilled chicken (150g) with tomatoes
Dinner: 2 boiled eggs with carrots

Day 13

Breakfast: coffee (sugarless and dairy-free) + tomato
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs + boiled spinach
Dinner: skinless chicken (200g) and broccoli.

Don’t forget to drink a lot of water while dieting. It is not recommended.
