Sinus are air-filled spaces in the skull, behind the forehead, in the bones of the nose, the cheeks, and the eyes.
Normally air can circulate through the sinus because mucus can flow out unobstructed. If these openings are blocked, a sinus infection occurs.
The symptoms include headache, a feeling of pressure behind the eyes, loss of sense of smell, coughing that is worse at night, congestion and sore throat. Generally discomforts persist up to 4 weeks. This is called acute sinusitis.
It is caused by bacteria that grow in the sinus. When discomfort persists for over 3 months, the condition is called chronic sinusitis, caused by either bacteria or a fungus.
How to get rid of a sinus infection
Treating sinus congestion by pressing specific points on the face:
- Using your tongue, apply pressure to the palate.
- Put a finger between your eyebrows and press.
- Holding for about 20 seconds. The sinuses will begin to drain.

Recipe for Sinus Tea with apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup of hot water
- 3-5 drops of stevia or a tsp of honey
Place 2-3 tablespoons of organic apple vinegar into a cup of hot water or tea. Drinking this mixture 3 times a day will help reduce congestion. You can add lemon and honey or other sweetener to taste.
Turmeric and ginger tea
Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant aromatic spice. By combining it with ginger in a tea, you will help your body drain the mucus. It also relieves pressure, which helps you feel better.
Thyme and mint steam bath to de congest
The steam helps loosen up the mucus. At the same time, it clears the nasal passages. You can inhale the steam from a hot shower or put a few drops three tablespoons of rosemary and mint in a bowl of hot water. Cover your head with a towel or cloth and move your face closer to the water to inhale the vapors.
Stay in that position and inhale the steam for 10 minutes making sure to keep your face about 20 cm from the pot. Repeat the process 2-3 times a day as necessary.
